It reflects the company’s commitment to responsible labor practices in compliance with the laws protecting workers’ fundamental rights.
Labor Standards
Labor standards refer to the regulations and practices governing employment conditions, such as wages, working hours, holidays, and workplace safety. The purpose of labor standards is to ensure equal protection for workers, improve their quality of life, ensure safety, promote positive labor relations, and boost employee morale.
The labor standards are in accordance with relevant labor laws, including the Labor Protection Act, B.E. 2541 and its amendments, the Occupational Safety and Health Act, and the Labor Relations Act, B.E. 2518 and its amendments.
Benefits of Implementing Labor Standards
Labor standards are vital for global trade. Today, large buyers in the United States and the European Union emphasize that products and services must respect human rights and labor rights. These buyers set labor standards as conditions for manufacturers, and failure to comply may result in the cancellation of orders.
Implementing labor standards supports exports, improves workers’ quality of life, and ensures workplace safety. It reduces the loss of life and property, enhances employee morale, and increases productivity. Additionally, labor standards establish best practices for efficient management, which ultimately leads to increased productivity, higher wages for employees, and greater profitability for businesses. Most importantly, it builds a positive corporate image and reinforces social responsibility, which can reduce trade barriers.
Government Support for Labor Standards Implementation
The Department of Labor Protection and Welfare, specifically the Labor Standards Development Bureau, actively promotes and supports businesses in adopting Thai Labor Standards (M.R.T. 8001-2553). The department provides official certification as proof of compliance with these standards. This initiative helps reduce trade barriers and improve workers’ quality of life by offering services that ensure fair and equitable treatment.
Levels of Certification
To ensure progressive development towards full compliance with M.R.T. 8001-2553, certification is divided into two levels:
